The 4th Jakarta Economic Sustainability International Conference (JESICA) 2024, hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Business at UPN "Veteran" Jakarta, successfully attracted over 430 participants from diverse industries, academia, and research institutions. The conference, themed "Integrating Green Innovation for Sustainable Economic Growth Engaging the Audience," offered an essential platform for international policymakers, academics, and business leaders to address the critical issue of sustainable economic practices and green innovation. The event featured two main sessions: distinguished speaker seminars and a Call for Papers session. Participants had the opportunity to delve into key topics such as renewable energy, environmental policy, sustainable technology, and green finance.
The 4th Jakarta Economic Sustainability International Conference (JESICA) 2024 featured insightful presentations from distinguished speakers. Prof. Dr. Bambang P.S. Brodjonegoro, Former Minister of Finance of Indonesia, highlighted how the green economy is interconnected with innovation in addressing carbon emissions. He emphasized that adopting green technologies and sustainable practices across industries is essential to combating climate change and promoting economic growth. Prof. Bambang discussed how integrating innovative solutions in energy, manufacturing, and agriculture can help reduce carbon footprints, ultimately fostering a low-carbon economy while boosting economic development.
Prof. Dr. Rajah Rasiah from the University of Malaya, Malaysia, discussed the pivotal role of digitalization in driving economic sustainability. He explained how digital technologies, such as big data, artificial intelligence, and blockchain, are transforming industries by enhancing productivity, fostering innovation, and improving efficiency. These technologies optimize decision-making, reduce resource waste, and encourage greener practices, which collectively contribute to long-term sustainable growth and resilience against economic and environmental challenges.
Additionally, Asst. Prof. Dr. Trairong Swatdikun from Walailak University, Thailand, emphasized the significance of sustainable reporting for economic growth. He discussed how transparent and accountable sustainability reports attract investors and ensure long-term financial success. Dr. Trairong highlighted that companies prioritizing sustainability in their reporting practices are more likely to foster corporate responsibility and achieve sustainable economic growth.
Dr. Sigit Pria Perdana from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland, presented on the topic "Greening the Future – Unpacking EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and Implications to Developing Countries." He delved into the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and its potential impact on developing countries. Dr. Sigit explained how this policy, which aims to impose carbon tariffs on imports to the EU, could affect international trade and the global economy. He also discussed how developing nations could face challenges in meeting these environmental standards, while offering insights into how they might adapt to these new global trade regulations.
The Call for Papers session will allow researchers to present findings that support sustainable economic strategies. Accepted papers will have the opportunity to be published in renowned journals, further contributing to the discourse on sustainable development.
