The Indonesian Society for Microbiology (PERMI), in collaboration with Universitas Brawijaya, successfully hosted its 14th conference, The 14th International Symposium of Indonesian Society for Microbiology (ISISM). The event carried the theme “Unlocking the Potential of Microbial Metabolites: From Discovery to Innovation” and took place on December 3–4, 2024, at Ijen Suites and Convention Hall, Malang, Indonesia, in a hybrid format.

In this conference, PERMI invited six keynote speakers from six countries, including:

• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Farhid Hemmatzadeh, DVM, PhD (University of Adelaide, Australia)
• Assoc. Prof. Sehanat Prasongsuk, Ph.D. (Chulalongkorn University, Thailand)
• Ahmad Fathoni, M.Eng., Ph.D. (BRIN, Indonesia)
• Prof. Madya Dr. Tan Geok Hun (Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia)
• Prof. Yutaka Nakashimada (Hiroshima University, Japan)
• Ursela P. Guce Bigol, PhD, DPAM (The Industrial Technology Development Institute, Philippines)

In addition to the keynote speakers, ISISM featured five invited speakers, namely:

• Prof. Dr. Sc. Asep Awaludin Prihanto, S.Pi., M.P. (Universitas Brawijaya)
• Prof. Dr. Evi Susanti, S.Si., M.Si. (Universitas Negeri Malang)
• Prof. Sri Suhartini, STP, M.Env.Mgt.PhD, PGCert (Universitas Brawijaya)
• Prof. Dr. Ulfah Utami, M.Si. (UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang)

The conference successfully attracted more than 100 participants from various universities in Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, and Australia. ISISM served as an effective platform for microbiology researchers to share knowledge and strengthen international collaboration in the field.
